Who I am

Marco Manca — I am a researcher in Human-Computer Interaction, focusing on Web Accessibility, End-User Development, and Human-Robot Interaction.
I am a member of the HIIS Lab (Human Interfaces in Information Systems), directed by Fabio Paternò, at the Institute of Information Science and Technologies "Alessandro Faedo" – ISTI of the CNR in Pisa.
I'm an ACM and SIGCHI member.
My work explores how users can create automations and interactive environments through augmented, mixed reality and chatbots conversational interfaces. I also design socially assistive robots and serious games to support older adults and people with Mild Cognitive Impairment through cognitive stimulation and stress management.
I am actively engaged in research and development for web accessibility, with a particular focus on large-scale automatic validation and monitoring of public sector websites. My work addresses the evolving requirements set by international guidelines (such as the W3C Web Accessibility Initiative) and European legislation (notably the Web Accessibility Directive), aiming to support the detection and remediation of accessibility issues for people with diverse needs. While automation is crucial for systematic monitoring, I also recognize the importance of expert manual evaluation and user feedback to ensure truly inclusive digital experiences.
